First Aid. But for the mind.
If you saw someone was injured in public, there is a high chance you would try to help them. They may even need First Aid, something many people are trained to provide. But what if the person you saw was not having a physical injury? What if they were experiencing a mental emergency– a panic attack, self-harm, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation? Would you know what to do? What if they’re your child? Your student? Your team member?
Mental health issues are on the rise. Awareness and resources are not. Be that resource for the youth in your life.
Mental Health First Aid for Adults Who Interact With Youth is the urgent, first-stop care provided to youth experiencing a mental health issue or crisis. It is designed to provide First Aid help until the young person is able to receive long-term support.
Why take MHFA? Because you’ll learn:
Mental health affects us all, despite age, education, profession, culture, gender, you name it. Our mental health influences every aspect of our lives and how we make decisions. The course operates with the philosophy that mental health problems may be avoided through early intervention.
It won’t train you to be a therapist or counsellor. It’ll teach you to provide immediate help and resources. As a person who works with youth, this course can make all the difference between helping someone out and letting them slip through the cracks. By learning how to assess situations and approach people, you can connect them to the appropriate resources.
